Originally named North Yamhill, it was incorporated under the name Yamhill by the Oregon Legislative Assembly on February 20, 1891.
Yamhill, a small farming town located half way between Portland and the Coast, is in the heart of Willamette Valley’s Wine Country. Home of the Yamhill/Carlton High school and Intermediate School. Yamhill is a small community with 1105 citizens who are proud to call it home.

The City of Yamhill is currently looking for interested citizens to apply for a position on the City Planning Commission. There are (3) openings beginning for terms beginning January 1, 2024, and ending December 31, 2026. This is a volunteer position. The City Planning Commission currently holds meetings once a month. Meetings are scheduled for the third Monday of each month at 6:30 pm in the City Council Chambers. Candidates must be residents that have resided within the city limits for the last 12 consecutive months.
