The City of Yamhill is looking for interested citizens to apply for a position on the City Planning Commission. There are (2) openings beginning for terms beginning January 1, 2025, and ending December 31, 2027. This is a volunteer position.
The City Planning Commission currently holds meetings once a month. Meetings are scheduled for the third Monday of each month at 6:30 pm in the City Council Chambers.
Per the Yamhill Municipal Code candidates for the Planning Commission:
- May not be employed by the city
- May not be a member of the City Council
- Must live within the city limits or within 5 miles of the city and in the 97148 zip code. (The Council may only allow one planning commission member that lives outside of city limits)
Planning Commission members ideally should possess an understanding of zoning ordinances, knowledge of the legal principles behind the planning process, and a basic understanding of community issues and ordinances. There is no experience required, as this knowledge and training can be acquired.
Desirable qualifications and attributes include:
- Experience in municipal activities
- Experience working with organizations
- Experience working in voluntary positions
- Ability to be open to differing opinions
- Being fair-minded and impartial
- Ability to listen to all sides of testimony and make a fair decision
- Ability to maintain and independent, objective stance
- Articulate and able to communicate clearly in a meeting environment
